History

When Edie Orenstein opened the doors of the first Edie Hats in Kitsilano in 1983, it was clear something special had arrived in Vancouver. Orenstein, originally from Nova Scotia, had taken a long journey learning costumery and design. She discovered a gift in hat making and in creating and selecting pieces that encouraged peoples playful side.

Over the years the business expanded. Edie, unable to keep up with the demand for great hats on her own, began to form strong relationships with many well-known international hat companies.  Edie Hats has often been the first to introduce many brands to Canada.

Since to Granville Island the store has become a local retail icon. With an atmosphere of vintage meets latest fashion, it is a destination people return to again and again.

In July 2011, the East coast called Edie home. While we were sad to see her go, her energy and enthusiasm for excellence is firmly rooted in our every day ethos.  She remains a vital part of our brand and the new ownership refers to her expertise daily.

We continue to work with both local and international brands to bring the best choice to Vancouver. In addition to our great selection of hats we have added some rare to find clothing and accessory lines which compliment our style.

Our future is growing from strength to strength. We have been honoured with many accolades and are a favourite among both locals and visitors to this beautiful city.
