What makes a person cool?

It was a complete fluke that I had the opportunity to meet Edie and Andrea.

After all, I was just looking for my lip balm when a woman with wild black locks and a fuchsia 1950s dress caught my eye. She wanted to test drive a car.

I wasn’t expecting Edie to choose a Civic, much less a Hybrid (even a nice one). But it was a sensible, fuel-efficient car … how can you go wrong with that?

Well, I’ll tell you how. You can drive it next to a convertible.

The moment I saw the longing and excitement in Edie’s eyes as that Porsche zipped by us, I knew we were in the wrong car. We weren’t even half way over the bridge with the Civic Hybrid when Edie started telling me about all her plans for another car: the 2001 BMW Ci I had just told her about.

We turned around and headed back.

When Edie saw her BMW, she covered her mouth with joy. She sat in it and ran her hand over the leather. She started it and her smile got even bigger. She drove it and her blood rushed to her heart. I could feel her excitement. It was almost overwhelming. She ripped across the bridge, switching gears like a pro.

Wind in our hair, the car was hers.

If I had a plaque to give out with the words “Most Memorable Customer” engraved in gold (and diamonds of course) I would run it over to Edie and her right hand woman, Andrea, right now. The one that says “Best Advice Given by an Accountant” goes to Bill.

She’s got the hats, she’s got the car. I don’t know about the guitar, but she’s definitely got the cool.

Edie, thank you for letting me be a part of your freedom. It was a pleasure.
