Hats Are Our World: Notes on Buying Internationally

Customers often come in to our store asking where we find so many great hats.

At Edie Hats, we buy from around the world. We look to nearly every continent to find the classic and fashion forward styles you see in our store. The merchandise at Edie Hats is the result of thirty years of business and experience in the hat world.

In the early years, Edie would visit the local library to search for new companies using microfilm reels, searching out articles in local and international newspapers to find mention of hat companies. She would then put pen to paper and personally handwrite letters requesting catalogues and information from which she could create an order.  With persistence, she would eventually build lasting business relationships.  Edie has even paid world travelers to bring back authentic panamas from Ecuador and the real Afghani hats that you can still see on display in our back room.

Today, the internet makes finding new companies a lot easier, but more often than not, finding great stuff is just a matter of keeping your eyes open.

Oftentimes, it is a matter of chance, like when Edie met Miguel of Senovilla who approached her in the street in Jerez, Spain, with his beautiful hand-made shoes.  With Edie’s gift of persuasion, which in Spainish translates into dinner and drinks, she was able to convince him she could put his gorgeous Spanish shoes on the feet of many North Americans.  For the past two and a half years, we have successfully communicated our orders to him using our Mac’s translator widget.

We are devoted to bringing the best products to Edie Hats, despite borders, currencies, language or customs.  Hats are our world, after all.  They’re what we do best.
