Hats of to Musical genius…

For those who know us, know we are more than just a hat store. We offer people a complete experience, a brief escape into a world of movie stars, glamour, style and song. Musicians are especially important to us and throughout the store are items paying tribute to them. Edies’ Sparrow guitar, the piano in the window – even the sprung dance floor. We’ve hosted many spontaneous outbursts of dance, song and piano playing in our store! As a creative environment, musical people are drawn to Edie Hats and have chosen to wear great, iconic hats from us.

We like to shine a light on artists who rock our world and have an on-going love affair with legendary blues man, Jim Byrnes. His gravelly, soulful tones never fail to receive swoons and smiles whenever we play him.

From long time loves to new ones, we are thrilled to announce the release of Folly and the Hunter‘s debut album, ‘Residents’, on Saturday, 5th March. Edie’s son, Nick, adds his creative and theatrical gifts to this Montreal based foursome. To Edie’s great pride, they have captivated us with their indie/folksie sound and their beautifully resonant lyrics. With an already growing following we can’t wait to see what the future holds for these young poets.

To show our support for these musicians, we sell their CD’s in store. All the money goes directly to the artists.

A new Hat for Easter – like you need an excuse!

The wearing of a fancy new hat on Easter Sunday is traditional in Christianity. Lent, the forty days of abstinence before Easter Sunday, is rewarded by feasts and the indulgence of new outfits. It is an old tradition, with a 15th Century Almanac stating that ‘if on Easter Sunday some part of ones outfit is not new, they will not enjoy good luck during the year’!

Today, the custom of wearing an elaborate hat on Easter Sunday can still be seen. New York’s Easter Parade on 5th Avenue can rival any day at the Ascots. On Easter Sunday the churches are full to the brim (pun intended!) of ladies in their finest and widest feathered and floral pieces.

At Edie Hats and Tart Boutique we celebrate this tradition with gusto! Pop by to dress up in our finery and take part in our annual Chocolate Easter egg hunt!

All the world’s a stage. Visit Edie Hats in the daytime, and you just might find a band in the store, playing as you shop. But at night, on very special evenings, Edie Hats becomes a theatre hosting live performances like blues nights with Jim Byrnes and flamenco with Mozaico Flamenco Dance Theatre and The Orchid Ensemble.

Edie Hats has also hosted interactive, informative theme events. Make no mistake – these are not lectures. We’ve recreated the last night on the Titanic, right down to period costumes and an authentic menu, and warmed our cockles at a real-life Maritime Thanksgiving party on East Coast Days.
